The Atlantic City Boardwalk carries a wide and varied history. The areas first population attended because it offered good food in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere. The city grew rapidly but hotel owners were dismayed whenever they had to continuously clean their lobbies of the sand earned by the feet of the beach visitors. In an effort to solve the issue, the 1st boardwalk appeared in 1870.
